Emergency Teriyaki Sauce

I went to marinate some chicken breasts for tonight’s dinner and had the dreaded realization that we had no teriyaki sauce. Usually when I make teriyaki sauce, I use brown sugar, but we never had any, and we were also running out of honey, so I experimented with a new recipe using molasses. I usually use pineapple juice in my teriyaki sauce, and since we had a pineapple, I pureed some to use as a sweetener.

Feel free to modify any of these ingredients and adjust them to your preferences. You might substitute rice or white wine vinegar instead of the apple cider vinegar for example. And if you have brown sugar, I’d probably use that instead of molasses/honey

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 TBS honey
  • 3 TBS molassas
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 TBS apple cider vinegar
  • 2 TBS honey
  • 1 cup pureed pineapple
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 4 TBS mirin (optional)

Basically I put everything in a sauce pot and simmered it to just below boiling.
