I’m a huge fan of Markdown because I hate being locked into software and unable to open my own files (Adobe, cough cough!). Markdown does a great job of both future-proofing your text and also simplifying the process. Zettlr is a new markdown editor for authors, instead of coders (though it does support code highlighting). A code editor for writers is really appealing to me, and Zettlr supports a great list of features such as timers, word count, exportability, writing goals, etc.
I’ll be honest, my first attempt to use this on Windows it crashed, but it is still a beta and you’ll probably have better luck if you use Linux. Still, I’m sharing this because I’m really excited about this software and think it will be something I’ll use a lot in the future.
